Camp Lowell Surgery Center is a freestanding outpatient surgery center
owned 100% by practicing community physicians.

Patient admission to the facility is scheduled through physicians who are credentialed members of the medical staff. Physicians desiring to perform medical/surgical procedures within the scope of service at the facility must demonstrate compliance with the Facility Bylaws, Medicare, State licensing requirements, and the requirements of Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc.

Hours of Operation: Normal hours of operation are 6:15 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Thursday and 6:15 am to 3:00 pm Friday, or until the last surgery is completed and the patient is recovered and discharged.

The minimum age accepted for admission to the surgery center is one year gestational age for most surgical cases. Children under 1 year gestational age may be scheduled for specific surgeries that are approved by the Board. An example of such surgeries are myringotomy, frenectomy, frenotomy, frenoplasty, excision of exostosis, etc. Children under 6mths gestational age may be scheduled for specific surgeries only after review by the Medical Director. There is no age maximum.

Children Are Special Little People

We work hard to meet the special needs of children and create a relaxed comfortable environment. Children can bring a favorite toy or blanket to the hospital or enjoy our playroom.

We encourage parents to discuss the surgery with the child beforehand to help alleviate stress. Parents are also encouraged to stay with the child until surgery begins and are requested to rejoin the child as soon as the recovery room nurse requests their presence in the recovery room. Upon release, we recommend that one adult drives home while the other cares for the child.

ASA Classification 1, 2 and 3 will be candidates for surgery at this facility. However, upon review by physician, anesthesiologist and facility management, ASA IV patients may be considered depending on the scheduled surgical procedure. Emphasis is always on patient specific factors when selecting patients for outpatient surgery including physical status, surgical procedure, length of procedure, and ASA classification. Other factors to be considered are a history of anesthesia problems, malignant hyperthermia, latex allergies, sleep apnea, and obesity. Special patient requirements or needs will be assessed on an individual basis. Consultation with Dr. Bentley, Medical Director, is easily available for any patient with a questionable history. Only those patients whose needs can be fully supplied by the facility will be considered as candidates for outpatient procedures. This will be a joint decision by the physician, anesthesiologist and the facility management.

General anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), IV sedation and regional anesthesia are provided at this facility. The Anesthesiologist does pre-op assessments of their patients and provides continuity of care throughout the patient’s stay at the center. Our anesthesiologists are Board Certified or Board Eligible. Applicants who are not Board Certified or are not in active participation in the examination process leading to certification require individual review by the Governing Board.

Each patient is given discharge instructions for their follow-up care which include activity, diet, medications, dressing care, follow up visit and physician contact phone number. These instructions also reflect that the facility does not provide emergency care.
